From amethyst to zircon, there are over 200 different types of gemstones and crystals found in nature, each with its unique set of properties. In this blog post, we delve deeper into the mystical world of gemstones and crystals, exploring their uses and meanings. Gemstones and crystals have been used in holistic healing practices for thousands of years. They are believed to enhance our spiritual and emotional wellbeing and also alleviate physical symptoms. Each gemstone and crystal has a unique energy that can be harnessed for specific purposes. For instance, amethyst is known for its calming properties, while citrine is said to bring abundance and prosperity. Holding or wearing these stones can help promote these attributes within us. The seven chakras are the primary energy centers of the body, and each one is associated with a specific color and gemstone. Using gemstones and crystals in chakra healing can help balance and align these energy centers, promoting overall physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. For instance, using a blue stone like blue lace agate can help balance the throat chakra, which is associated with communication and self-expression. Gemstones and crystals have a long-standing spiritual significance, and have been used in various forms of spiritual practice throughout history. They are often used as a tool for meditation and prayer, and are believed to enhance our intuition and spiritual connection. Using gemstones and crystals in this way can help us deepen our spiritual practice and connect to our higher selves. Lastly, but certainly not least, gemstones and crystals are simply beautiful. They come in a wide range of colors, shapes, and sizes, and can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any outfit or space. Wearing gemstone jewelry or having crystal decor in your home can help bring positivity and beauty to your life. Conclusion: In conclusion, gemstones and crystals have a rich history and play an important role in holistic healing, spirituality, and aesthetics. Whether you are wearing them, using them in meditation, or simply admiring their beauty, incorporating gemstones and crystals into your life can bring a sense of peace and wellbeing. So go ahead and explore the mystical world of gemstones and crystals – who knows what treasures you might find! Types of gemstones and crystals : BirthstonesMany people believe that the month in which you were born dictates which gemstone or crystal is meant for you. These stones are known as birthstones, and each has its unique properties. For instance, those born in January have garnet as their birthstone, while those born in February have amethyst. Garnet is said to represent friendship, while amethyst is known to promote tranquility. Precious StonesDiamonds are arguably the most well-known and coveted of the precious stones. This transparent stone comes in different variations of white, yellow, and pink, and has been a favorite of royals and celebrities for years. Sapphires and rubies are also considered precious gems. Sapphire comes in shades of blue, and is thought to represent wisdom and truthfulness, while ruby, which is red and represents love and passion, is said to increase energy levels and promote courage. Healing CrystalsMany crystals are thought to have healing properties, with each crystal believed to have a specific use or application. For example, clear quartz is said to be helpful in meditation, while amethyst may aid in stress relief. Rose quartz is believed to promote love and forgiveness, and onyx is said to provide grounding and strength. Semi-precious StonesSemi-precious stones include stones such as peridot, citrine, and turquoise. Peridot, a green stone, is believed to heal and protect the heart chakra, while citrine, a yellow-orange stone, is said to increase creativity and motivation. Turquoise, a beautiful blue-green stone, is thought to have a calming effect and balance energies. Organic GemsOrganic gems, such as amber and pearl, are formed from biological processes. Amber, which is made from fossilized tree resin, is believed to promote healing, protection, and grounding. Pearls, on the other hand, are formed inside oysters and are thought to represent purity and promote emotional balance. Difference Between Gemstones and Crystals Gemstones are generally defined as minerals that have been cut, polished, and used in jewelry or decorative objects. A gemstone is a natural mineral that is mined from the earth and is prized for its color, clarity, and durability. Precious gemstones such as diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires are typically very rare and expensive, while semi-precious stones such as amethyst, turquoise, and garnet are more common. On the other hand, crystals are minerals that form naturally in different shapes, sizes, and colors. Unlike gemstones, they are not cut or polished, and they are used mainly for their metaphysical properties. They are found in clusters or individually, and they come in various forms such as point, sphere, pyramid, and wand. Quartz, amethyst, citrine, and rose quartz are common examples of crystals that are often used for spiritual and healing purposes. Gemstones are believed to have physical and emotional healing properties, but they are primarily used for their aesthetic value. The color, clarity, and cut of a gemstone determine its value and beauty. They can be used in jewelry such as necklaces, bracelets, and rings, or as decorative objects in the home. Gemstones have been used for centuries in different cultures for their beauty and perceived mystical properties. Crystals, on the other hand, are believed to have healing properties that can help the mind, body, and soul. Each crystal has a specific vibration, color, and energy that can be harnessed for different purposes. For example, amethyst is believed to help with insomnia and anxiety, while rose quartz is said to promote love and healing emotions. Crystals can be used in different ways such as meditation, chakra balancing, and feng shui to enhance their benefits.

Benefits of Baltic Amber

Baltic Amber

Amber is a translucent to opaque yellow, golden or orange gemstone, usually warm to the touch and much, much lighter than one would expect of a gemstone. It is not a stone in the truest sense–rather it is fossilized resin from trees common about 50 million years ago. Amber is sometimes called electrum as Amber produces static electricity when rubbed. Amber gets its name from the Greek Ambrosia. Note! Almost all of our suppliers are from the Baltic Region. Heat treating is undetectable in most cases, so please assume this natural Amber may have been heat-treated. Mystical Properties: The beautiful warm color of Amber Jewelry and the ease with which it can be worked has made it popular since the Stone Ages. To the Norse, Amber was the golden tears of the Goddess Freya that fell into the sea and solidified. Others believe Amber to be the tears of Heliads grieving for her dead brother Phaethon, who had fallen into the River Eridanos. The sun is said to have hardened the tears into Amber. Polish legends ascribe Amber to human tears from the forty-day rain. A Kashubian legend says Amber was created from very loud lightning storms. Homer mentions Amber in his writings, attributing great desirability and value to the golden gems. To the ancient Greeks, Amber came from the apples of immortality (hence the name, Amber from the Greek ambrotos, meaning ambrosia). From this legend, Amber was believed to instill protection to its wearer and increase longevity. The Romans picked up on this, believing Amber a first rate protector, so much so, the Roman Gladiators adorned their shields and weapons with it. In Christianity, Amber is thought to be tears shed by birds at Christ’s death. Ancient Germans called Amber bernstein, meaning burning stone. When burned, it will still give off a pine scent (50 million years later!), and so was used as an incense. Amber is thought to help an out of balance Sacral Chakra (2nd). Natural Healers will sometimes use it to smudge (cleanse), as when burned, the smoke is said to carry away pain and problems. Amber is the gem of Germany, Romania, and Sicily and those of Germanic, Romanian and Sicilian descent. Said to favor those named Ambrose and Anne. Dreaming of Amber is said to indicate an upcoming voyage. Healing Properties: Most commonly Amber is said to help with sore throats, swollen glands, and fevers–possibly because of its ability to hold heat. Scientific Properties: Amber is not a true crystalline mineral, rather it is of organic origin, being the fossilized sap of pine trees common about 40-50 millions years ago. The most extensive deposits of Baltic Amber are found in the blue muds of the Sambian Peninsula and by the Bay of Gdansk. Found all over the world, including Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Borneo, but the most valued Amber usually comes from the Baltic region. Has piezoelectric properties (i.e., rub it and it produces static electricity). Hardness: 4 on the Moh’s Hardness Scale

The Personalities of the Planets
Astrology

The Personalities of the Planets

Throughout the ages, astrologers have ascribed a certain “personality” to each of the planets which appears to influence the personality of those born under that planet. Indeed, our everyday language has preserved these planetary personalities in such words as saturnine (from Saturn), which means of gloomy temper, heavy, grave; martial (from Mars), which means military or warlike; and jovial (from Jupiter), which means of a jovial temperament, joyous, jolly. Research using the character traits method has enabled the identification of psychological or personality patterns that correspond to the rise and culmination of the planets at birth. For example, champion athletes, who could be described as tenacious, courageous, and tough minded, were found to be born with Mars rising or culminating twice as often as other sports individuals. As we have seen, “martial” (from Mars) means military or warlike. Indeed, the results of such research have shown a relationship between human personality traits and the position of the planets at birth. The character traits method also has been used to compare the key traits ascribed to the planets by astrologers throughout the ages. The method used involved extracting keywords from appropriate chapters of ten astrological textbooks, dating from as early as the second century A.D. to as recently as 1978. Overall, there was good agreement among the ten author’s keywords for each planet. The most consistent results were found for the moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. The analysis of the keywords provides a clear picture of both the personality and the antipersonality of these planets. A sampling of the keywords for the personalities of these five planets is presented below. In addition, the keywords associated with these planets have either a positive, negative, or no relationship to the keywords from remaining nine planets (the sun and the moon are both considered planets). For example, the keywords of dreamer, sensitive, imaginative, and intuitive appear both as Moon as Neptune keywords, indicating a positive relationship. In contrast, the Venus keywords of feminine, indifferent, peaceful, indifferent, courteous, lazy, timid, and agreeable have a negative relationship to the sun keywords of virile, self-willed, aggressive, enthusiastic, powerful, full of strength, energetic, and restless. The least consistent results were found for the sun, Mercury, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. It is believed that the findings for these planets are not as strong for physical reasons. First, the sun is actually a star, not a planet. Second, Mercury is the smallest planet and may not have sufficient mass to generate consistent findings. Third, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are the most distant planets in the solar system and may not be in a position to show an effect of the same magnitude as the planets that are in closer proximity to the earth. Nevertheless, certain keywords for the personality of each planet have been agreed upon and a sample is presented below. What is most significant about the planet’s “personalities” is that they have been viewed relatively consistently throughout the ages.

how the moon affects us

How the Moon Affects Us

The moon has captivated humanity for millennia, not just as a celestial body that lights up our night sky, but as a powerful influence in astrology. Its phases and positions are believed to hold sway over our emotions, behaviors, and even our destinies. Understanding the moon’s impact can offer insights into various aspects of our lives, from personal moods to global events. The Importance of the Moon in Astrology In astrology, the moon is more than just Earth’s satellite; it is a symbol of our inner selves. Unlike the sun, which represents our outward personality and ego, the moon governs our emotional landscape and instincts. Here’s a closer look at its significance: Emotional Influences The moon is often associated with emotions, intuition, and the subconscious mind. Its cycles are said to mirror the ebb and flow of our feelings. During a full moon, people may experience heightened emotions and energy, leading to increased creativity or restlessness. Conversely, a new moon is seen as a time for reflection and setting intentions for the future. Connection to Water Astrology suggests that the moon’s gravitational pull affects not just ocean tides but also the “tides” within us. Given that the human body is predominantly water, the moon’s phases are believed to influence our bodily fluids and rhythms. Some people report changes in sleep patterns or energy levels aligning with the lunar cycle. Influence on Behavior Folklore and studies alike hint at the moon affecting human behavior. The term “lunacy” itself stems from the Latin word for moon, “luna,” reflecting the ancient belief that the full moon could induce erratic behavior or even madness. While scientific evidence remains inconclusive, many still track their moods and actions in relation to lunar phases. Astrological Birth Chart In an astrological birth chart, the moon’s placement provides insight into one’s emotional core and maternal influences. It sheds light on how a person processes feelings, interacts with their environment, and seeks comfort. For instance, someone with their moon in Cancer may be nurturing and sensitive, whereas a moon in Sagittarius might indicate a love for adventure and freedom. How the Moon Affects us Spiritually : We are all aware that the moon has phases, but we may not be aware of how these phases affect many aspects of our lives. The moon has a 29 1/2-day cycle, during which it goes through four major phases: new moon, first quarter moon, full moon, and last quarter moon. In each of these phases, the shape of the moon that is visible to us is affected by the moon’s angle to the sun. The moon grows in light at the new moon until it becomes a full moon. Then the moon decreases in light until it becomes the next new moon. The moon travels about one degree every two hours. As it moves through its phases, it also moves through the signs, spending about two and a half days in each sign. Most of us know that the moon affects the tides. But it also affects all liquids on earth, including our bodily fluids. We tend to retain more water during a full moon and, because our skull is unable to expand when fluid pressure increases, the excess water is sometimes manifested in “full moon madness.” In addition, one of our three primary biorhythmic cycles, our 29-day emotional cycle, is a based on the moon. Lunar observations, occurring over thousands of years, have shown that the phases of the moon have a profound affect on our lives. Your lunar high occurs when the moon is in the same sign as your sun sign. This is when you feel your best, and it is a good time to start new projects. Your lunar low occurs when the moon is in the sign opposite your sun sign. This is when you may feel at your lowest, and it is best not to make decisions. In addition, you may run into obstacles in projects in which you are already involved. We will truly be more in tune with the universe if we understand what the phases of the moon mean for us. The new moon begins in darkness and slowly emerges as a crescent shape. This moon is the beginning of everything, and it is a good time to begin new endeavors or to put your plans in motion. The first quarter moon is also known as the half moon because this is how we see it. During this moon phase, there is a lot going on, and this is when you may encounter obstacles or challenges to what you began in the new moon. However, if these challenges are met, then this phase will see your endeavors through to completion. A full moon occurs when the moon is exactly opposite to the sun. This is a moon of high energy, the highest peak before it begins to wane. During this phase, your activities are brought to fruition and you will see the results of your efforts. Even if things have not gone well, during this phase, you will suddenly see clearly what was wrong. The last quarter moon is the midpoint of the moon’s waning phase. This phase marks a time to retreat. This time should be used to assess, diagnose, learn from your mistakes, make corrections, wind down, and prepare for the next cycle. This is most true during the moon’s dark night, known as a balsamic moon, which occurs right before the moon begins its cycle anew. During a balsamic moon, psychic energy is at its peak. Another very important phase is the void of course moon, one whose energy is spent. This is a moon that has made its last major aspect to the other planets until it moves into the next sign. This is a period when it is best not to begin anything. A void of course moon is a time of gestation, when one should engage in rest and research. If decisions are made at this time,

Ascendant Meaning in Astrology
Astrology

Ascendant meaning in astrology

In astrology, the term “Ascendant” refers to the sign that was ascending on the eastern horizon at the exact moment of one’s birth. This is also known as the “Rising Sign.” Unlike the Sun sign, which is determined by one’s date of birth, the Ascendant, or Ascendant Meaning in Astrology, is highly specific to the exact time and location of birth, making it a unique component of an individual’s astrological profile. Sun signs are only the beginning of astrology and provide only general information. To understand your birth chart, you need an in-depth understanding of ascendants, planets, and houses. Understanding the Ascendant Meaning in Astrology can provide deeper insights into your personality and life path. Your ascendant, or rising sign, is the sign that was rising over the horizon at the moment you were born. During a 24-hour period, each of the 12 signs rises over the horizon. Thus, each sign rises over the horizon for approximately two hours each day. In addition, whichever sign the sun is, when it rises, will be the rising sign for that day. The ascendant is considered both the image that is presented to the outside world and the way you express yourself, which includes your needs, personality traits, and physical characteristics. Your sun sign and ascendant are usually different. This is why your ascendant is experienced as a “mask;” it hides your true self, your sun sign. The ascendant also represents the person you are becoming. It indicates the traits and skills you are learning to develop over the course of your lifetime. Your ascendant may be more obvious to others than to yourself and may be revealed in your clothing or hairstyle. How the Ascendant Fits Into Astrology The Ascendant is considered one of the “Big Three” in astrology—the trio of key components that include the Sun sign, Moon sign, and Ascendant. While the Sun sign represents core identity and ego, and the Moon sign reflects emotional nature, the Ascendant embodies how a person appears to others, their outward demeanor, and their first impressions on the world. Influence on the Horoscope In a natal horoscope or birth chart, the Ascendant serves as the starting point for the chart, setting the framework for the house system used in Western astrology. It can influence personality traits and even physical appearance, offering insights into how individuals present themselves and how they are perceived by others. Connection with Zodiac Every individual’s Ascendant corresponds to one of the twelve zodiac signs (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, etc.), each adding its unique flavor to the personality. For instance, someone with Leo rising might come across as confident and charismatic, even if their Sun sign is more introverted. Understanding one’s Ascendant, alongside other astrological elements like the Sun and Moon signs, can provide a deeper, more nuanced understanding of both personal identity and interpersonal dynamics. Planets in Astrology : The planets are celestial bodies that move through the zodiac in predictable ways. In astrology, the sun and the moon are considered planets because, from the earth’s vantage point, they also move across the sky. Thus, in astrology, there are ten planets: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, as well as the sun and the moon. Each planet has a symbolic “glyph” on the chart those represent the various energies of a person, including intelligence, emotionality, consciousness and unconsciousness, soul, will, vitality, and desires. There are three types of planets: personal, social, and transpersonal. The personal planets include the sun, the moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars; the social planets include Jupiter and Saturn; and the transpersonal planets include Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. The moon, as a planet, has the special property of nodes. The nodes represent moving points that relate to the moon’s orbit around the earth. In astrology, the south node represents the legacy of your past, while the north node represents your potential for growth and for what lies in the future. Each planet rules one or more of the signs, meaning that the planet is in charge of that sign. In addition, certain planets and certain signs share certain characteristics. Some people have a number of planets aside from their sun in the same sign, but in a sign other than their sun sign. Such people will show strong characteristics of that different sign. Other people may have a lot of planets in a certain area of their chart. As such, they may expend a great deal of energy in that particular area of their life. In horoscope charts, houses are the places where everything in your life occurs. Each house occupies a place in relation to the horizon at the time you were born. Below the horizon are the areas which are invisible but, nevertheless, important. In the houses below the horizon is your personal development, which includes such areas as your personality, knowledge, creativity, health, resources, and responsibilities. Above the horizon are the areas which are visible. These areas represent your development in the world and include goals, social concerns, relationships, shared resources and, interestingly, your unconscious. Planets, moving about the signs, appear in houses. The planets show how you do what you do in certain areas of your life. In addition, certain planets and signs also are associated with certain houses. Another concept associated with houses is cusps. Cusps are the beginning of each house, and cusps separate the houses from each other. Overall, the most important information about you starts with which house and sign a planet are in. Who you are is defined by your unique combination of planets, signs, and houses.
